Stung by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's observation on the RBI's frequent changing of rules since after the demonetisation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday "warned" him against making any "personalised comments".

"This is my request as well as a warning to Rahul Gandhi that he should desist from making any personalised comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman Sidharth Nath Singh said here.

"This will only open a Pandora's Box which wouldn't be good (for them)," he added.

Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday tweeted that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was changing rules as frequently as Prime Minister Modi changes his clothes.

"RBI is changing rules like the PM changes his clothes," Gandhi said on his official Twitter handle.

Gandhi's observation came after the RBI on Monday announced that deposits of demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in excess of Rs 5,000 will now be allowed only once till December 30 — that too after strict scrutiny.

This notification was the government's 59th communication in less than 50 days of the demonetisation announcement.

The Congress has often dubbed the Modi government as "suit boot ki sarkar (Government of the elite)", taking a jibe at Modi's sartorial elegance and preferences.
