Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers staged a protest outside the Uttar Pradesh (UP) State Assembly in Lucknow on Monday over the worsening law and order situation in the state.
BSP activists waved party flags and carried posters of their leader Mayawati, and shouted anti-Samajwadi Party (SP) slogans.
They also burnt effigies and criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue of inflation.
A protester, Naseemuddin Siddiqui, told ANI said, "Since the Modi Government's formation at the Centre, inflation has increased, and since the SP Government's formation in UP, law and order in the state is ruined. It has become difficult for girls to survive. Criminal activities like theft, murder and rape etc., have become common, and they are being done on the direction of SP leaders."
"We are protesting under the law, unlike the Janata Party and the SP, who always violated laws during their protests," he added.
Recently, BJP workers in Kanth district near Moradabad clashed with the local police following the detention of few of the BJP Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) along with Muzaffarnagar riots accused Sangeet Som who were later released.
