Former Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader Agri Krishnamoorthy was arrested by Crime Branch-CID on Saturday night. He was arrested in connection with the suicide of S Muthukumarasamy, an engineer in the agricultural department, last month.
Krishnamoorthy was summoned for questioning by CB-CID about the case, after nearly eight hours of questioning he was arrested at Chennai. He is now taken to Tirunelveli court and later he is expected to be taken to the prison. On March 8, the ruling AIADMK Government dropped Krishnamoorthy from the Cabinet and from the party following opposition parties’ pressure. It was alleged that Muthukumarasamy was pressurised by Krishnamoorthy’s office to appoint certain people as drivers in the department.
On February 20, Muthukurmarasamy jumped in front of a train and was killed.
