A complaint for "cheating" and other offences was today filed before a magistrate's court in Baramati in Pune district against Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for giving "false" assurance on reservations for Dhangar (shepherd) community.

The complaint under IPC section 420 (cheating) against Fadnavis was filed by activist Hemant Patil, a member of BSP.

Magistrate Sanjay Shinde posted the matter on June 12 for verification of the complaint.

According to Patil, the Dhangar community has been demanding reservation in Scheduled Tribe category for the last 63 years.

When the community took to streets to press the demand before, Fadnavis, then in the opposition, had promised the agitators in Bamarati in writing that after coming to power BJP government will provide the reservation but the promise was not fulfilled, the complaint says.

He got votes of the community on the basis of false assurance, it says.
