Following is the chronology of events in the Sankararaman murder case:
September 3, 2004: A Sankararaman, Manager of Sri Varadarajaperumal temple in Kancheepuram, hacked to death.
November 11, 2004: Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswathi arrested on Deepavali day from Mahbubnagar in Andhra Pradesh in connection with the killing.

January 10, 2005: Jayendra Saraswathi granted bail by Supreme Court. Junior pontiff Vijayendra Saraswati arrested in the case.
January 21, 2005: SIT of Tamil Nadu police files charge sheet against the accused. Civil contractor Ravi Subramaniam, who turned approver, not among the arraigned.
February 10, 2005: Vijayendra Saraswati granted bail by Madras High Court.
March 7, 2005: Madras High Court grants bail to senior pontiff for allegedly threatening Subramaniam.
May 6, 2005: Supreme Court issues notice to Tamil Nadu government on Jayendra Saraswati's plea to transfer the case outside the state.
October 26, 2005: Supreme Court transfers the trial of Sankararaman murder case, to a court in Puducherry (Pondicherry then).
March 28, 2006: Charges framed against 24 accused.
April 2, 2009: Trial begins in Puducherry Principal District and Sessions Court.
January 21, 2010: Ravi Subramanian turns hostile in Puducherry court
March 21, 2013: An accused in Sankararaman murder case, Kathiravan, hacked to death in Chennai. Number of accused comes down to 23.
November 12, 2013: Principal Sessions court says it will deliver verdict on November 27.
November 27, 2013: The two seers and all other accused acquitted after prosecution failed to prove the case.
