While lambasting the Aam Aadmi Party AAP for “sitting in government and acting like Opposition” on the one hand (chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘dharna’ at North Block), the Congress today ruled out pulling out its support from the AAP led Delhi government.
The party believes that plugging out its support would bring down the minority government and thereby play into the hands of the AAP. The Congress thinks that such a move would not only make AAP a “martyr” in the eyes of the public but also help the Arvind Kejriwal led party, move onto focusing on the Lok Sabha elections rather than governance at the Delhi government level.
“Why should we pull out support and help the AAP. That’s what they want us to do and that is to be avoided at all costs. We will continue to attack them from every podium and on every issue. Ultimately, we want them to be exposed themselves without any effort from us,” said a Congress insider.
Using both the Delhi Congress platform and the AICC, the Congress today lashed out at AAP and Arvind Kejriwal. Delhi Congress PCC chief Arvinder Singh Lovely questioned, , “Delhi CM leaving all work sitting on dharna to suspend three police officers and save his two ministers ?”
AICC spokesperson Meem Afzal asked, “If the Chief Minister sits on dharna, who will run the government?” The Congress demanded to know how many administrative decisions had been taken by Kejriwal and his Cabinet today when they were sitting in dharna. “The government is run from the Delhi Secretariat not from the streets,” said Afzal.
Another Delhi Congress leader stated, “Since the time Court ordered for an FIR against Somnath Bharti,AAP is trying its best to divert the issue.”
Although opinion has always been divided in the Congress over extending support to the AAP government, the party believes that in the present scenario, it would be best to let AAP fail on its own. “Already the public support for AAP has been dwindling over the past few days looking at their antics. The Ugandan women issue, their autocratic style of functioning is turning people off,” observed a Congress leader.
