The Congress might borrow a trick or two from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which would often resort to disruptive and delaying tactics in Parliament during their long stint as the main Opposition.
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the Opposition on the first day of the winter session on Monday for a "fruitful and smooth session", the Congress hit back, reminding BJP of its "obstructionist" tactics during the United Progressive Alliance government.
Slamming the "hypocrisy" of BJP, the Congress recalled how entire Parliament sessions were washed out - the monsoon session in 2012, for instance - by BJP. It also recalled how the Goods and Services Tax Bill had been delayed due to the opposition from BJP-ruled states like Gujarat and its then chief minister, Modi.
While the Janata parties, Left and Trinamool Congress unambiguously stated they would oppose the Insurance Amendment Bill, a part of the government's reform agenda, the Congress stated they had "no objection to it in principle but there is no blank cheque either in legislation or in politics".
