The Madhya Pradesh Congress has written to the Election Commission demanding an inquiry into the possibilities of Electronic Voting Machines being rigged, before votes for the Assembly elections are counted on December 8.

State Congress Vice-President Rameshwar Neekhra said in a statement today that the party had received a total of 42 complaints about malfunctioning of EVMs.

Neekhra said that this gives rise to suspicion that some sort of organised racket was behind all this.

He said that complaints about malfunctioning EVMs had been received from many places, including Surkhi, Bhopal and Panna.

He said that the same EVMs would soon be used again in the Lok Sabha polls and added that some steps need to be taken to restore the credibility of EVMs.
