A lower court dismissed the bail plea of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) lawmaker Dhananjay Singh in connection with the murder of a domestic help here on Friday.
Dhananjay Singh's wife Jagriti Singh was also arrested on charge of murdering their 35-year-old domestic help and torturing another minor domestic servant.
Dhananjay Singh was arrested by Delhi police for destruction of evidence on November 6.
The body of maid Rakhi, with several injury marks on her legs, chest and arms, was recovered from Singh's South Avenue residence after the lawmaker himself informed the police.
Lawyer Jitendra Singh Bhasin said the court found it inappropriate to accept the bail application at such a prime facie stage.
"The court believes that it would not be appropriate to give bail plea at this prima facie stage because it is believed that the DVR (Digital Video Recorder) and the CCTV footage have been mishandled. He is an influential person and he can influence at this stage if he is granted bail. So, the court has rejected his bail plea saying it is not the appropriate stage," said Bhasin.
The court had earlier rejected Dhananjay Singh's plea on November 20.
An FIR (First Information Report) was registered against Jagriti Singh under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 344 (wrongful confinement) of Indian Penal Code and Juvenile Justice Act.
Dhananjay Singh is a BSP lawmaker from Jaunpur constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
