Leaders of the BJP's Delhi unit Monday met President Pranab Mukherjee and demanded the removal of Law Minister Somnath Bharti who had led a controversial campaign against an alleged drugs and sex racket in the capital.

"We demanded the removal of the law minister. The act of the law minister was totally illegal. He has time and again broken the sanctity of the oath of allegiance and secrecy for the constitution," said Harsh Vardhan, leader of opposition in the Delhi assembly.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation led by Harsh Vardhan also asked for a thorough investigation into the "unconstitutional, unethical conduct and doubtful activities" of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its foreign funding.

"Arvind Kejriwal's NGO Sampoorna Parivartan and his minister Manish Sisodia's NGO Kabir have received huge donations from abroad amounting to millions of dollars," Harsh Vardhan said.

"It is mandatory, as per law, for all to inform the home and finance ministries about such transactions and furnish complete details of the same. But in this case, no such details were provided even after the authorities asked for it," he said.

The delegation also mentioned in its memorandum that the AAP government has been openly disrespecting the constitution and legislative norms of the country.
