Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Monday claimed that the UPA-led central government and the Congress Party was finding it difficult to digest the progress being made in BJP-ruled states of the country.
Addressing a rally here, Modi, while praising the development-linked work of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, said: "Shivrajji has done a lot of work on the irrigation front. Can you see this development or not? You can see it, but Delhi cannot."
Further sharpening his attack on the ruling Congress Party, he said: Agriculture under your (Congress) rule has hardly gone beyond four per cent. Under Shivrajji, this has gone to over 13 per cent."
He also criticised the Congress state leadership for spreading rumours that "if you press the 'kamal' (BJP symbol) button on the EVM (electronic voting machine), you will get an electric shock."
This Modi said reflected the desperation in Congress' rank and file.
He also questioned as to why when the chairman of a manufacturing outfit used to be in power, farmers were committing suicide.
He also referred to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh praising the implementation of the centrally-funded package for the Bundelkhand region of the state, but asked why was the state of Uttar Pradesh not being given a similar package for its development, and added where has all the money meant for that state gone.
"The BJP and Shivrajji have developed Madhya Pradesh, overcoming every obstacle and a hostile government in Delhi," Modi concluded.
