President Pranab Mukherjee Saturday urged the officer trainees of the 2012/13 batches of the Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES) to apply modern management concepts and deploy suitable technology for managing the records of defence land that will come under their jurisdiction.
Addressing the trainees who called on him at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here, Mukherjee said that they "were not only expected to know land laws and see that land records were updated, but also to apply their judicial mind and management skills".
Welcoming the probationers to the "interesting and challenging task which lay ahead of them", Mukherjee urged them to carry out their duties with a spirit of service and devotion.
The IDES deals with the municipal administration of 62 cantonments and the management of about 17.5 lakh acres of defence land spread across the country.
