Former MPCC president Ranjit Deshmukh has demanded action against Congress MLA from Saoner, Sunil Kedar in connection with the alleged Rs 150 crore securities scam of 2002 when he was the chairman of Nagpur District Central Cooperative Bank (NDCCB).

In a letter to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, a copy of which was released to mediapersons here yesterday, Deshmukh accused the state government of showing leniency in taking action against Kedar in the last 12 years.

Kedar was recently slapped a penalty of Rs 129 crores by the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative department in connection with the alleged financial irregularities.

Pointing out that the money lost in fraud belonged to poor farmers and weavers of the district and because of the set back the bank suffered, several beneficiaries were denied crop loans and advances, Deshmukh demanded strict action against the MLA.
