A Congress leader was arrested here today for allegedly burning effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Devendra Singh Yadav, the co-ordinator of the Rajiv Vikas Kendra, an organisation associated with the Congress, was arrested for allegedly torching the effigies and staging a protest in Pandrinath area, a police inspector said.

Before his arrest, Yadav said that his organisation had announced that effigies of Modi and Chouhan would be burnt at 51 places in the city today, on the issues of rising inflation and the multi-crore Madhya Pradesh Professional Board Examination (MPPBE) scam.

However, at many places, police managed to seize the effigies and did not allow the protests to be staged.
