Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) V Narayanasamy on Wednesday criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for disrupting Parliament, saying that the opposition party is making a mockery of parliamentary democracy.
"The kind of situation which the BJP is creating in the whole session of parliament, Budget session they created problem, Monsoon session they created problem, because they are not interested in debate in the parliament," Narayanasamy said.
"When the honorable speaker calls the meeting, our parliamentary affairs minister calls the meeting, they all say that they will cooperate, but either they (BJP) are obstructing, or they are instigating other parties to do all these things," he said.
"This is unacceptable and unwarranted. BJP is mocking parliamentary democracy," he added.
Earlier, Congress general secretary Ajay Maken had appealed to opposition parties to cooperate in Parliament so that key reform Bills can be passed in the Monsoon Session.
"The Congress Party wants to ask the opposition to allow that these pivotal and far-sighted Bills are passed after parliamentary discussion. If this (citing Tuesday's behaviour) will be the role of the opposition, then in the time ahead it is a matter of worry, because there will be a big question mark over the functioning of our nation as a democracy," Maken said.
"We want to ask the opposition to pass those Bills based on reform, those Bills through which the common man will be benefited after discussions. To not pass these Bills would be a threat to the democratic functioning of our country. ...The opposition should not dismantle our temple of democracy. We should all work together in Parliament to ensure that the sessions go on smoothly," Maken added.
The Parliament has been adjourned till Thursday after uproar over missing files related to coal blocks allocations between 2005 and 2012.
This even as the Congress was hoping to debate and pass the Food Security Bill.
