Elections results reflects public sentiment against Congress: D Raja

He however added that the vote didn't mean the acceptance of BJP's politics

Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja on Monday said that the Assembly elections results in the four states were a reflection of public sentiment against Congress and its policies.

"Verdict of the people is clearly against Congress party and its policies therefore it's a vote against Congress and at the same time BJP took advantage of the situation because of the absence of viable alternative," Raja said.

"The vote doesn't mean the acceptance of BJP's politics. In Delhi, they got the alternative in the form of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and voted for it," he added.

He further said that the results show that people are in the quest for an alternative to both Congress and BJP.

"The BJP won because there was no credible alternative. So, the quest for an alternative is the central issue," he added.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday said that the results are very disappointing and party needs to do deep introspection.

Briefing reporters here, Gandhi said that price rise was an issue in this election and people were unhappy, otherwise they would not have given such a mandate.

Party Vice President Rahul Gandhi said that the election results have given a message to the Congress and it will transform itself to stand up to the expectation of the people. He also said the party need to move ahead and give serious space to common masses.

The debutant Aam Aadmi Party registered a historic win, defeating several political heavyweights of ruling party and opposition in Delhi. Its convener Arvind Kejriwal pulled off a major upset against three-time Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, defeating her with a thumping margin of over 25,864 votes in New Delhi constituency.
