Firing at Dantewada polling booth

Polling was suspended for 10-15 minutes after suspected Naxals opened fire

Polling was suspended for a brief period at a polling booth in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district after firing on Monday, said authorities.

Polling was suspended for 10-15 minutes after suspected Naxals opened fire.

Director General of Police Ramniwas said that 15 IEDs have been recovered from different parts of Bastar region, where the first phase of the assembly elections are being held.

By 1 p.m. the polling percentage was between 30-35%.

There are 4,142 polling booths spread across the 18 assembly constituencies. Among the polling booths, 1,311 are hypersensitive and 1,517 are sensitive.

There was tight security for the first phase polling for 12 seats in Bastar division and six seats in Rajnandgaon district in which a little over 29 lakh voters will exercise their franchise.
