Controversial Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Minister of State for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Giriraj Singh on Friday made another controversial comment, this time targeting former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.
In a tweet by ABP News Hindi, Singh was quoted as saying “The difference between beef and mutton is the same as the difference between our relationship with our mothers and our wives”. The ABP tweet, which was promptly retweeted by Singh, came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attack on Prasad for his comments in the beef controversy, as well as the PM's exhortation to the public to diregard frivolous and inflammatory commments by politicians.
Yadav last week had said that Hindus also consumed beef and that there was no difference between goat meat and beef. The statement had come against the backdrop of a 52-year-old Muslim man being lynched by a mob in Uttar Pradesh’s Dadri, allegedly for storing and eating beef in his house.

Of course, the fight was not over as far as Singh was concerned. Days after Prasad’s beef gaffe, Singh claimed the people of Bihar might be forced to consume beef if Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar won the election. He went on to accuse Kumar of being silent on the matter and demanded a response from the incumbent Bihar CM.
