Within days of admitting the slow pace of work in all the state government departments, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said he would set targets for ministers and officials, and would evaluate their performance regularly.

"We will set targets for all and then evaluate them accordingly. We will put grades against their performances. This will be for all the ministers and all the officials," Gogoi told reporters here.

Stating that he used to give free hands to everyone earlier, he said he would not do it anymore.

Gogoi stirred a furore among government employees last week when he said work in all the departments was done at a "slow pace".
