Harsh Vardhan, who has now been rewarded with a ministerial berth at the Centre after a long stint in the Delhi politics, is a doctor. Vardhan’s association with Narendra Modi goes back to the time when Modi was in-charge of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
He is still known to be a close associate of Modi. The former president of the BJP’s Delhi unit started his political career with the RSS and was elected to the first Vidhan Sabha in 1993.
He held portfolios of education, health and law in the Delhi government between 1993 and 1998.
Vardhan has formerly been the national vice-president and also a member of the national executive of the BJP for many years. Vardhan who has been Delhi BJP Pradesh president four times, was once again made the Delhi unit chief in the run-up to the Assembly poll campaign, which proved fruitful for the party winning 32 out of the 70 seats in the fray.
