Bandh call coincides with day when Union Cabinet expected to finalise draft Telangana Bill

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao has called for a total bandh  in Telangana region on Thursday in the light of strong rumours that the UPA government was going to add two Rayalaseema districts to the proposed Telangana state.

The bandh call coincides with the same day when the Union Cabinet is expected finalise the draft Telangana Bill based on the recommendations of the Group of Ministers constituted to study the issues on the bifurcation.

“Every shop and every office should be voluntarily closed in the city and across Telangana on that day to send out a message to the government that the people of Telangana have been asking for a separate state only with the ten districts of the region,” he said.

Media reports yesterday suggested that the GoM has favoured the creation of Rayala Telangana, which would ensure equal number of Lok Sabha as well as Assembly seats on both sides apart from other considerations.

Union minister S Jaipal Reddy, who belongs to Telangana, said in Delhi yesterday that the idea of Rayala Telangna would not serve any political purpose except generating bitterness among the people of both the regions.
