Following the State-wise list released by the central government in collaboration with World Bank. It has named Tamil Nadu at 18th position in terms of ease of doing business, the opposition party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has criticised the State government for not attracting investments.

M K Stalin, leader of opposition in the State and treasurer of DMK, on Tuesday said that while the State government has been claiming that it has brought in investments into the State in the previous regime, Tamil Nadu's ranking has come down from 12 to 18 in a year's time.

"This shows that the government was not even able to bring in the Rs 2,42,160 crore investments it claimed to attract through the Global Investors Meet," he said. He added that the list has distroyed the claims of the State government that Tamil Nadu is top in attracting investment and top in terms of industry.

"Everybody knows that economic growth and industrial growth are two eyes of a State. Therefore, at least now the government should take efforts to improve the industrial scenario," he added.

Earlier, the Tamil Nadu Industries Minister M C Sampath has said that the list has been created based on the MoUs signed by each States and not considering how many investment proposals have passed through the necessary approvals to materialise. The methodology is wrong, he added.
