Industry representatives of the Federations of Associations (FAM) met Shiv Sena leaders and sought their intervention after realising that Maharashtra's Congress-led government is not paying any heed to their demands.

In an official release here today FAM general secretary Muhammadali Patel stated here today that Sagar Rukari representing Maharashtra Petrol pump dealers along with others met Shiv Sena leader of the assembly Subhash Desai and requested support to trade and industry.

They briefed him about excessive taxes like octroi levied only in Maharashtra due to which industry faces difficulties doing business. Petrol and diesel is costlier in Maharashtra compared to other states, they said.

Traders are not able to continue with interstate and local business because of increase in the basic cost of goods due octroi, he said.

"Accordingly, they promised us that they will look into the matter and clear their stand about support as early as possible after discussing the same with Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thacekrey. We have requested a meeting to be arranged with Uddhav Thackeray as early as possible," he said.
