Development of tourism and tea gardens would pave the way for the development of tribal people, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said today.
Announcing a package for Adivasi development at a Tribal Advisory Committee meeting here in north Bengal, Banerjee said the state government was taking the initiative for opening closed tea gardens for which the state labour minister had been given directives.
Workers of closed tea gardens were already getting rice at Rs 2 per kg, she said.
To familiarise the tea garden workers with the labour laws, she said, the state government had translated the laws into the Alchiki language.
A special recruitment drive would be undertaken to give jobs to tribal people, Banerjee said.
A tourism centre would be set up at Buxa fort and a model village at Jayanti.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Chief Minister planted saplings.
