In run up to the 2017 assembly polls, Uttar Pradesh government has hinted at further sweetening its industrial development policy to attract more investment.

Soon after coming to power in March 2012, the incumbent Akhilesh Yadav government had unveiled its New Infrastructure & Industrial Investment Policy 2012 replacing the erstwhile policy framed in 2004.

Now, UP chief secretary Alok Ranjan has directed officials to study new steps required to further improve the existing policy and come up with proposal without delay.

He issued these directives while reviewing the functioning of the state infrastructure and industrial development department last evening.

Some of the projects which are under focus are the Lucknow Metro Rail, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Lucknow IT City, Lucknow International Cricket Stadium etc.

Ranjan has also suggested greater coordination with industry associations, so that the initiatives pertaining to ease of doing business are swiftly communicated to industrialists.

He underlined timeframes specified for various clearances towards setting up of industrial units be widely publicised. These timeframes have been incorporated in the UP Janhit Guarantee Act for timely processing of proposals.

Meanwhile, he said 'Letters of Comfort' be issued to mega projects, which had been given incentive under the policy.

Reviewing developments in NOIDA, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), he said several electronic manufacturing companies had expressed interest in establishing their units.

Ranjan informed 152 citizen-centric services in NOIDA were now available online and over android app 'Noida Citizen Charter'. Since, it has received good response from people, the state government could also replicate it at other places.

The government also wants to accelerate work on Lucknow Industrial Development Authority (LIDA).
