While BJP today promptly reacted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's comments attacking Narendra Modi, the chief minister of Gujarat and BJP's Prime Minister candidate, Modi, himself, however, chose to tactfully stay away from getting to verbal duel with his political opponent Manmohan Singh.
Singh had earlier during the day taken a dig at Modi at a press briefing, saying that it would be disastrous for the country to have Narendra Modi as the PM. Singh also said that he did not wish to have a PM who would "preside over mass massacre".
While a forceful reply from the firebrand Gujarat chief minister was expected, Modi, chose to refrain from passing any comment on Singh's statement. Modi was addressing the Global Healthcare Summit held in Ahmedabad today evening. He let go off the opportunity to lash out at Singh or for that matter the Congress party. The tech-savvy minister who takes to tweeting regularly did not even make any statement on the micro-blogging site.
Modi's party, however, promptly reacted to Singh's statements. BJP today said that it was unfortunate as the party's PM candidate has come out unscathed after going through unprecedented legal scrutiny not experienced by any leader in independent India. "Using such a phrase against Modi (that he will be disastrous for the country as premier) does not add to the dignity of the PM office... If the dirty tricks department of the Congress had used such language, it is understandable," Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley told reporters in Delhi.
