BJP is a divided house over announcing Narendra Modi as PM candidate. And if events of the past few days with efforts being made to convince L K Advani were not enough of a indicator, senior BJP leaders are now battling it out with each on social networking platform, Twitter.

While party leader from Bihar, Sushil Kumar Modi started the war of words by tweeting that Advani has failed to guage the public mood on Modi and should support him as he supported Atal Behari Vajpayee in the past, Sudheendra Kulkarni, a known Advani loyalist has hit back today.

Sudheendra Kulkarni tweeted, "A socially polarising leader has polarised his own party. Can he run a smooth, stable and effective government at the Centre?THINK SERIOUSLY!"

Another BJP leader and recent entrant to the party, Subramanian Swamy has also tweeted in the veteran leader's support.

"Advani was the favoured candidate for PM in 1996. But he chose then to make a sacrifice then. It is wrong to say PM aspiration is behind it", tweeted Swamy

Advani is appearing to be a stumbling block for the BJP in finalising the name of Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate and hectic efforts were underway to convince him to give up his opposition.

Senior BJP leaders have held meetings with Advani to bring him on board on Modi's name. BJP President Rajnath Singh held a half an hour meeting with Advani, while former party president Nitin Gadkari had met the party's parliamentary party chief yesterday as an emissary of the RSS. It is no secret that Rajnath Singh is under serious pressure from the RSS to announce Modi's candidature despite Advani's stringent opposition.

Advani is opposed to Modi's candidature and had announced his resignation from all party posts soon after Modi's anointment as BJP Campaign Committee chief in the recently held national executive at Goa.

Sources say Advani has not given up his opposition to the Gujarat Chief Minister during his recent meetings with party's top brass.
