Odisha logs 53% spurt in exports in 2013-14

To support exports the state government has taken up 29 infrastructure development projects

Bucking the slowdown trend, Odisha has logged 53 per cent growth in exports in 2013-14 at Rs 18,780 crore as against Rs 12,245 crore registered in 2012-13.

The export performance of the state was reviewed on Wednesday by chief secretary G C Pati at the meeting of the state level empowered committee.

Panchanan Dash, secretary, MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) attributed the growth to an enabling export policy of the state government. Dash said, 62 per cent of the exports have come from metallurgical, marine, electronics and software.

Metallurgical products contributed Rs 7,677 crore to the exports basket while electronics & software and marine products exports amounted to Rs 2,300 crore and Rs 1,699 crore respectively. Engineering, chemical & allied sectors contributed Rs 3,531 crore. Pati has stressed on expediting implementation of export supporting infrastructure development projects sanctioned under ASIDE (Assistance to States for Developing Export Infrastructure & Allied Activities) scheme. At present, 10 such schemes are under various stages of implementation in the state.
 

To support export activities, the state government has taken up 29 infrastructure development projects.

Out of this, 19 projects have already been completed and 10 are in various stages of implementation.

The ongoing projects include establishment of 132 KV line with 132/33KV substation for Daitari iron ore project, construction of an ITes/BPO (business process outsourcing) tower in Bhubaneswar, development of auto park at Mania village in Cuttack district, Infovalley project for Infocity-II SEZ (Special Economic Zone) setting up common pre-processing centre at Dhamara fishing harbour, improvement of approach road to Balaramgadi fishing center, Chandipur in Balasore district, creation of IT incubation centre in the Infocity IT/ITes SEZ, Chandaka, establishment of World Trade Centre (WTC) in Bhubaneswar, establishment of aluminium park at Angul and establishment of incubation centre with allied facilities in ITes SEZ (knowledge park ) at Goudakasipur in Khurda district.

The empowered committee approved two new projects with an estimated investment of Rs 101 crore . These include establishment of apparel park at Kurki in Khurdha district with a project outlay of Rs 2.74 crore and establishment of multi-modal logistic park at Jharsuguda with an investment of Rs 98.38 crore.
