Opposition alliance Meghalaya People's Front (MPF) has demanded that a special session of the Assembly be convened to discuss the "deteriorating" law and order problems in the Garo Hills region and on influx, the twin issues concerning the people of the state.
"There is an urgent need to hold a special Assembly session in view of the unabated influx of illegal foreigners and the deteriorating law and order situation in Garo Hills region," MPF spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh said.
An official intimation in this regard was sent to Speaker A T Mondal and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for their consideration on the matter last evening, he said.
The MPF comprises of 13 MLAs - eight of United Democratic Party, two of National People's Party, one of Garo National Council and two Independents.
