	The Parliament on Wednesday approved amending the Constitution to provide 10 per cent reservation to general category poor in jobs and education with the government terming the landmark move as &#39;slog over sixes&#39;.</div>

	A day after Lok Sabha approved The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2019, the Rajya Sabha passed the law with 165 voting in favour and seven against.</div>
<br>

	In the last leg of the legislative process, the Bill will now go to the President for approval. And once it gets his ascent, it will become the law that will give economically weaker sections in the general category 10 per cent reservation in education as well as central and state government jobs.&nbsp;</div>

	The Constitution envisages quota for socially and educationally backward classes, besides SC and STs, but has no mention of economically weaker section. The amendment Bill seeks to insert a clause in Sections 15 and 16 of the Constitution.&nbsp;</div>

<strong>Arun Jaitley in Rajya Sabha: </strong>The country expects the House to function. As per normal working days, we should have been working, most of time the House stood adjourned. There is one extra day to consider legislations.

<strong>Anand Sharma, Congress in Rajya Sabha</strong>: The way the House proceedings were extended without the consent of the opposition parties was not right. The situation now is such that there is no dialouge between the Opposition and government. The government is foremost responsible if the House doesn&#39;t function.

<strong>Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel in Rajya Sabha:</strong> The government wants to extend the functioning of the House by a day as there are important bills to be passed.
