Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his cashless economy initiative and said the society has already become cashless.
"Prime Minister's narrative has changed over time, first it was fight against black money, then terrorism and now it's about making society cashless. The Prime Minister talks about making the society cashless, society has already become cashless because of this move. People are suffering," Gandhi said while addressing people at Dadri Anaaj Mandi in Uttar Pradesh.
Rahul Gandhi said that Modi has waged a war against poor people on November 8 with the announcement to demonetise old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.
He accused PM Modi of shifting the goal-post time and again. The move was aimed at ending corruption and counterfeiting, but as the month progressed, the narrative seemed to have meandered towards the government's other goals – war against terror, digitisation and cashless economy, among other things.
Gandhi talked about back door transactions at banks where the corrupt are able to withdraw large amounts. "Aapko mil rahe hain Rs 2000 aur jo bhi chor Rs 50-100 crore nikalna chahata hai woh bank ke piche se nikal raha hai. (You are getting Rs 2,000 and Rs 50-100 crore are being changed through back door channels)."
