In the first sign of organisational rejig after the debacle in the Assembly polls in four states, the Congress on Thursday appointed new party chiefs in Delhi and Chhattisgarh. Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit’s rival J P Aggarwal had already resigned as the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief. On Thursday, Arvinder Singh Lovely, former education minister, was appointed to replace him. In Chhattisgarh, where the Congress lost in a close contest, PCC chief Charan Das Mahant has to make way for Bhupesh Baghel.
The announcement came a day after Congress President Sonia Gandhi, addressing the parliamentary party meeting, drove home the message of “discipline and unity” , lack of which, Gandhi said, was one of the major factors behind the massive defeat in Delhi and Rajasthan.
There is speculation that the next in line to be axed would be Rajatshan PCC chief Chandrabhan and Madhya Pradesh chief Kantilal Bhuria.
Besides, the Congress has also been reshuffling chiefs in states that will be going to the polls in 2014 coinciding with the general elections. There is a talk that young MP Ashok Tanwar could replace Phulchand Mulana as PCC chief of Haryana.
