Focusing his attention on pollgoing states, Congress party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi will be in West Bengal on Saturday, meeting diverse people, from out-of-work jute mill employees in Hooghly to home buyers in Kolkata. He will also pack in a meeting with party workers at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata.

Last week, he had visited Kerala, which also has legislative Assembly polls in 2016. There, he had joined cause with fishers. In Bengal, he will interact with workers at the defunct Wellington jute mill grounds at Rishra, Hooghly.

After raising the issue of home buyers getting a raw deal and not being adequately protected under the pending real estate bill and meeting home buyers in Noida, Gandhi is slated to have a similar interaction with flat buyers in Kolkata.

Former Union minister Sachin Pilot had visited Bengal last month, saying, “We’re working very hard to revive the party (here) on its own. We are becoming stronger and when the elections are held, we will surprise everyone by how well we perform.”

The Congress is attempting to get back among the top three political parties in the state, displacing the Bharatiya Janata Party. The Left parties are at number two, with the Congress in fourth position.
