Rail fare hike an anti-people measure: D Raja

He said this government has no justification to go out for such a hike

ANI New Delhi

Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja today condemned the central government's decision to hike rail fares and demanded an immediate rollback.

Talking about the railway hike, he told ANI, "This is one of the strongest anti-people measures that government has unleashed. It shows the height of hypocrisy of BJP."

"BJP claims that it has a strong mandate. Strong mandate does not mean to take strong anti-people measures," he added.

Questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi about his opposition to a similar hike a couple of years back, he said, "PM Narendra Modi, as Gujarat chief Minister, wrote to the central government in 2012 opposing the railway fare hike, freight charges hike, when the UPA government did it," Raja said, adding that such a letter can be written to him now.

"This government has no justification to go out for such a hike," he added.
