Congress Party leader Rajiv Shukla on Saturday criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here for following the Congress' proposals on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), which they had earlier opposed when Congress was in power.

"FDI in defence and Insurance was opposed the most by the BJP only, especially by its leader Yashwant Sinha. Now, after coming to power, they have implemented it. They are talking about bringing FDI in defence and they have already brought 49 percent FDI in insurance with voting rights. When they were in opposition they used to oppose it now after coming into power they are saying the same thing which earlier congress used to say," said Shukla.

Earlier, while presenting the Union Budget, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had said that FDI will be sector specific and allowed wherever it is required in the national interest.

He had also announced that the capital in defence FDI would be raised to 49% from the previous 26%.
