Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal on Tuesday initiated a discussion on the Lokpal Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

"We hope the House creates history. Sometimes we have to rise above the political lines and listen to the voices outside the House and the way we have conducted ourselves in the past. Never has a Bill garnered so much public debate," the minister said.

Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said that it is good that the government has come to terms with the change reality of India.

He went on to add that there is scope for improvement in this law.

However, the Samajwadi party MPs have walked out of the Upper House opposing the Lokpal Bill.

Earlier, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav in an effort to make the party agree for the passage of the Lokpal bill.

Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi were also present in the meeting, according to PTI.

The Lokpal Bill is likely to be debated in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday if it gets passed from the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
