Rao Inderjit Singh switched over from the Congress to the Bharatiya Janata Party in September last year, over differences with Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. He has been rewarded with a ministerial berth. 

Singh was an MLA in the Haryana assembly for four terms, beginning in 1977, and has also been a state minister. At the Centre, in the UPA government, he has been Minister of State for External Affairs and subsequently Minister of State for Defence Production from 2006 to 2009. Since 2009, he has chaired the parliamentary information technology committee.
