Residences for poor: TN seeks Center's funds

Tamil Nadu government is awaiting funds from the Centre to construct residential tenements for Adi Dravida and other poor people, the state Assembly was informed today.

Replying to a query during question hour, Housing and Urban Development Minister R Vaithilingam said the state government had requested the Centre for funds during the 16th Finance Committee meeting held in Chennai.

"On the advice of the Chief Minister, the state government had sought Rs 7,150 crore from the Centre for constructing over eight lakh houses for the poor and the homeless across the state. Once we receive the funds, construction of tenements would commence," he said.
 

The Minister was replying to Pala Karuppiah (Harbour), who wanted these tenements for Adi Dravida people living in his constituency.
