Send Central team to Bihar to assess flood damage: RJD MP

Raising the issue in Zero Hour, Ram Kripal Yadav (RJD) said 54 lakh people have been affected by floods in 20 districts in Bihar and 160 persons have already lost their lives

A Central team should immediately be sent to Bihar to assess the damage caused by floods in 20 districts of the state, an RJD member demanded in Rajya Sabha today.

Raising the issue in Zero Hour, Ram Kripal Yadav (RJD) said 54 lakh people have been affected by floods in 20 districts in Bihar and 160 persons have already lost their lives.

'State government has not taken adequate steps to help the flood affected people,' he said, adding crops and livelihood of several thousand people have been destroyed in floods.

He demand that a Central team should should be immediately sent to Bihar to assess the damage and Central aid be extended to the flood affected.
 

Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP) said the state government had not made adequate arrangements and associated himself with the issue raised by Yadav.

Naresh Agarwal (SP) pointed to flood situation in parts of Uttar Pradesh while some others talked of similar situation in Assam and Punjab.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajeev Shukla said the Central government was concerned about the flood situation in some parts of the country.

Bihar is being provided money under the backward region grant fund, he said, adding suggestions of the members would be conveyed to concerned departments.
