The six official nominees -- three from the Congress, two from the Telugu Desam (TDP) and one candidate from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) - have been elected in the Rajya Sabha elections held on Friday for the six vacancies from Andhra Pradesh.
However, polling had to be conducted as there were seven candidates on record even though the rebel candidate from the Congress party declared yesterday he was no more in the contest.
Those who won are KVP Ramachandra Rao, T Subbarami Reddy and MA Khan from the Congress, Garikapati Mohan Rao and Tota Sitarama Laxmi from the TDP and K Keshava Rao from the TRS. In all, 248 MLAs utilised their voting. Of them, Daggubati Venkateshwar Rao, spouse of Union minister Purandeshwari, utilised the 'Rejection Vote' introduced for the first time in this election. Kamala, a woman member hailing from Guntur district left the ballot paper blank, according to reports.
