Solar scam: LDF to block Chandy's official residence from December 9

The LDF is expected to organise two state-wide campaign rallies during November 1-13 to mobilise public support for the exercise

The Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala would block the official residence of the chief minister indefinitely from December 9 against his alleged involvement in the solar power scam.

Vaikam Vishwan, convenor of the LDF, said the blockade would continue till Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announces his resignation. It is expected to organise two state-wide campaign rallies during November 1-13 to mobilise public support for the exercise.

Though Chandy had earlier announced a judicial inquiry, the Kerala high court rejected the plea of the government to provide services of a sitting judge of the high court for conducting the inquiry. Not happy over the non-inclusion of the chief minister and his office in the terms of reference of the inquiry, the Opposition did not accept the judicial inquiry. Consequently, comes the latest move to block Chandy's official residence.

The LDF’s earlier move to block the secretariat indefinitely in August was called off in just 24 hours. Around 50,000 workers had assembled at the MG Road, Thiruvananthapuram, on August  12, where the city was literally stalled.

The agitation was for the resignation of Chandy and for announcing a judicial inquiry into the solar scam. On the very next day of the blockade, Chandy announced a judicial inquiry and LDF withdrew its strike.
