With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) yet to decide on its chief ministerial face in Uttar Pradesh (UP), a section in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has suggested the name of Gorakhpur Lok Sabha member Yogi Adityanath.

The RSS is currently holding a meeting of its UP 'prant pracharaks' in Kanpur. The BJP is slated to hold its UP state executive in Moradabad later this month. Adityanath, a five time Lok Sabha member, is known for his aggressive espousal of Hindutva. However, there is no unanimity on his name in the BJP, while other aspirants like Textiles Minister Smriti Irani and Sultanpur Lok Sabha member Varun Gandhi are considered lightweight against BSP chief Mayawati and SP's Akhilesh Yadav.
