If Lok Sabha polls are held now, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stands to make gains in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh with Congress's vote dropping in comparison to 2009 while BJP strengthens its position. These are the predictions of a mood tracking survey conducted by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) for CNN-IBN channel.
The BJP is likely to win between 20-25 seats in Gujarat, with the higher tally marking a clean sweep of all Lok Sabha seats in the state as Chief Minister Narendra Modi makes a bid to be Prime Minister.
The survey shows that Congress is showing no signs of recovery after its defeat in the December 2012 assembly polls and Modi's candidature has clearly bossted the BJP base and attracted more support. The Grand Old Party may win 1-4 seats.
