Raising new issues before the crisis-ridden United Democratic Front [UDF] ministry in Kerala, former minister for Forest, Sports and Cinema K B Ganesh Kumar has resigned as a MLA.

He has sent his resignation to the  party chairman R Balakrishna Pillai, but the letter is not sent to the Speaker for formal acceptance. If the resignation is accepted, the strength of UDF in the assembly will come down to 72. The magic figure for majority is 71.

The MLA from Pathanapuram constituency is believed to have taken the action because he was disgruntled at not being given a ministerial berth even after controversies in which he was involved had died down. He resigned from the cabinet on 1 April when his wife Yamini Thankachi had lodged complaint with the Police against his cruel behavior and extra marital relationships.

Kumar, who has been an MLA thrice, had become a minister twice and had to resign on both the occasions. Political circles believe that the resignation is a pressure tactic to regain his cabinet berth.
