Senior Congress leader Manish Tewari came out strongly against the Uttar Pradesh Government for the recent spate of gruesome attacks against women in Badaun and Azamgarh.

Tewari said, "It's not only unfortunate but also a gruesome incident and it is the state government's responsibility to ensure strict punishment for the accused. If the UP government cannot assure the citizens of their safety, then it is a very worrisome situation."

Meanwhile, Digvijay Singh also commented on the caste divisions plaguing the north Indian state. He said, "Caste divisions are so stark in UP that government officials are loyal to caste not constitution. This is bad for the country."

Two teenage Dalit girls were raped and then left hanging from a tree in their village while another minor girl was also allegedly raped in Azamgarh. The UP government has come under fire from various quarters for being incapable of checking the rising cases of violence against women.
