As soon as Parliament met for the day on Friday, leaders on both the sides created uproar leading to brief adjournments of both the Houses. The proceedings of the day were hit by demonetisation issue for the third straight day in the Winter Session that commenced on November 16.

In the Rajya Sabha, members of both the camps entered the well raising slogans.

Azad stirred a controversy on Thursday saying 40 people had died following government's decision on demonetisation and added that fewer had been killed in attack by Pakistani terrorists in Uri.

"Who should be punished" for the death of these 40 people due to "wrong policy" on demonetisation, Azad asked and added that "millions of people are troubled. BJP and the government are responsible".

His remarks invited protest from treasury benches and Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu had termed the remark as "anti national" and demanded an apology that the entire Congress party.

Even though Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien has expunged Azad's remark, the Bharatiya Janata Party is adamant on its demand.

"Congress must apologise to the country for the controversial remarks made by Ghulam Nabi Azad," says MoS for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

Azad has refused to apologise for his remarks.

Meanwhile, upping its ante against the government's demonetisation order, Trinamool Congress MPs were protesting at the Gandhi statue in Parliament premises.

The BJP has also issued a three-line whip to Lok Sabha MPs to be present in the House as an united opposition is trying to corner the government.
