Ahead of the Assembly elections, the number of voters have gone up by over three lakh in Madhya Pradesh after final publication of photo-electoral rolls, state election commission sources said today.

With an increase of 3,39,296 voters, the total number of those eligible to exercise their franchise in elections has now gone up to 4,64,49,289 in the state, they said.

In view of the state Assembly polls slated to be held around year end, Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampat and Election Commissioners H S Brahma and Dr Naseem Zaidi will arrive on a two day visit to the city on August 26 to review preparations, sources said.

As on June 7 last, Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) percentage of male and female voters was 99.80 and 99.77 per cent respectively, which has increased to 99.87 per cent in both the genders after publication of final electoral rolls, they said.

Similarly, the number of service voters which was 19,669, has now increased to 19,815. NRI voters' number remained unchanged at six in the process, they said.

The CEC and other senior officials will hold meetings with the state chief secretary and the director general of police, besides conducting one-on-one meetings with representatives of political parties.

They would also meet collectors and superintendents of police, divisional commissioners and IGs of police to review poll preparations.

The visit may help in deciding the date from which the model code of conduct would come into force in the state and also the dates for voting and counting, sources added.
