Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held the first meeting of his new cabinet on Saturday evening at the secretariat in Patna. This week will tell us what else he wants to do in his third term as chief minister, what the new government's priorities are and what it wants to do in the short term.
Kumar has taken stock of law and order with district magistrates and police superintendents via video conferencing. The chief secretary, home secretary and the director general of police were present. Law and order is Kumar's big selling point and is likely to be his top priority.
But the chances are that the government will demand the full rollout of the Bihar package offered by the Centre; it will threaten to launch, a movement if this is not done. This week we will also know when Lalu Prasad intends to make the controversial visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency, Varanasi, to ascertain whether acchhe din (good days) have come to the constituency.
