Prestigious Race Course connectivity project completed ahead of schedule.
Afcons Mid-East LLC, a part of Shapoorji Pallonji Group, has completed the Nad Al Sheba Race Course connectivity, a part of Meydan Project, which was inaugurated on March 25, 2010, for the World Cup Horse Racing event. The project administered by RTA was completed a month ahead of schedule.
Mr.Naseer Alyasiri, Project Manager, Afcons Middle East, said, “Probably this can well be the first instance where a job is completed ahead of schedule especially in a period of global financial crisis. This project is the first project of AFCONS Mid East, though its parent company M/s.Afcons Infrastructure Limited has its strong presence in infrastructure segment for over 50 years”.
“In Middle East, apart from Nad Al Sheba, our group has done projects in Abu Dhabi, Yemen, Oman and other nations”, Mr.Naseer added.
Meydan Bridges and Road project is one of the key projects undertaken by RTA and its importance is underlined by the massive nature of Meydan Racecourse Project which is world’s largest horse race course with iconic and landmark development spread over an area of 67 Millions square feet. The construction of major Bridges and Roads for providing access to Meydan Racecourse was awarded to AFCONS Mideast LLC by Dubai RTA in September 2008 with scheduled completion the works in April 2010. However AFCONS has completed the works and opened the project for the traffic ahead of the original scheduled completion.
The project built by AFCONS comprises of bridges spanning 2500 meters; including six lane 860 meters long bridge over a water canal providing connectivity to Meydan Road from the existing interchange of Dubai-Al Ain Road, and another two bridges, 720 meters & 940 meters, each of two lanes for providing access to Meydan Racecourse.

The project included laying of ducts for utility services within the service corridors provided on either side of the new Meydan Road and also the construction of navigational canal under the six-lane bridge within the right of way of new Meydan Road. The construction of diversion roads of about 3.0 Km and management of traffic to facilitate the construction Roads and Bridges were one of the toughest challenges in this project.
