AEPC promotes Indian apparel industry in Las Vegas Magic Fair – Intends to further boost Indian apparel products in the US markets
As part of its global promotion of Indian apparel industry, Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), the apex body of apparel exporters, has been participating in one of the largest fashion fairs of the world – The Magic Fair, Las Vegas. It is estimated that through AEPC’s promotional efforts at the Magic Fair, the Indian apparel exporters would be able to clock about USD 150 million of export orders.
The fair that started from February 13, 2011 at Las Vegas, USA, will see exhibitors from India displaying their apparel manufacturing capabilities. From India, apparel manufacturers from the apparel manufacturing centers of Delhi, Tirupur, Mumbai, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have participated in the fair. The state of Delhi has the maximum number of participants’ viz. 23 per cent, followed by Tirupur (20 per cent). All these participants have established trade relations with the world’s renowned brands like Benetton, Versace, Lauren, and Wal-Mart and through this fair; they are expected to strengthen these ties further.
The Las Vegas Magic Fair is globally recognized as the eminent trade events that provides an international platform to the fashion industry. It has been the favorite sourcing destination of global buyers and sellers who deal into the men’s, women’s and children’s apparel, footwear and accessories. Over the period, the Las Vegas Magic Fair has been proving to be the prime origin of the global fashion trends.
“This is yet another step by AEPC to promote export of readymade garments from India to USA. During the fair, a strong platform would be available to the American buyers for concluding long-term sourcing decisions”, said Mr Premal Udani, Chairman, AEPC.
AEPC has been providing assistance to India exporters as well as importers/international buyers who choose India as their preferred sourcing destination for garments. This fair will help provide a strong base for many Indian exhibitors in the American market.

Though there has been an overall increase in the apparel export of India to US but India’s share in total clothing input has declined slightly by 1 per cent. In 2009, India’s share in apparel import to US was 4.5 per cent; which marginally declined to 4.4 per cent in 2010. Total apparel export to US for the period of January to December, 2010 was US $ 3111.8 million which has accelerated by 9.3 per cent for the previous year. India remained as the 5th largest import partner of US in clothing sector after China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Bangladesh.
Besides the Magic Fair, AEPC would also be participating in the Buyer Seller Meet at Chile and Uruguay from 31st March to 5th April, 2011 and the Futura Fair in Dublin, Ireland from 27th February to 1st March, 2011.
